Ever since Windows 95 it seems like finding a good book on using the command line is impossible. Tim Hill's "Windows NT Shell Scripting" was a much needed book - so I had high hopes for this book. This book seems much more intended for a class on basic command line commands. Most of the commands covered work on NT and many on 95.

I was hoping for something like Tim Hill's book with coverage of the newer facilities added in XP. There is no coverage of advanced command line processors such as NetSh or WMIC.

Even batch files are given one chapter - most of the book focuses on running interactive commands to perform basic activities with files and other system elements.

The book does have many exercises and a companion disk - so if indeed your task is a basic class on command line - this is a classroom in a book.

Tipping the scales at $60 USD I would not recommend it for general administrator usage.
